Avoiding Clogs in Your Plumbing System

Are you tired of dealing with stubborn pipes that are always backing up? Theres no reason to struggle with frequent clogs any longer. At Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Pittsburgh, we provide services for businesses and home owners in Pittsburgh, Beaver, South Hills, Penn Hills, Uniontown, Irwin, New Kensington, Washington, Dormont, McKeesport, Bethel Park, Cranberry, Aliquippa, Beaver Falls, Ross Township and other local communities. We have helped countless customers remove and avoid clogs and backups, and we want to help you do the same as well.

Get Rid of Bad Habits

One of the most common reasons for clogs is simply pouring inappropriate materials down the drain. Coffee grounds, eggshells can be composted and bacon grease or other fatty foods can be tossed out. Try not to let these items go anywhere near your kitchen sink, because these substances will create clogs inside your pipes. In addition, using hair traps and drain covers in the bathroom can help keep other unwanted items out of your plumbing system.

Clean Drains Frequently

The next step is to create space in your cleaning schedule for your drains at least once a month. A basic vinegar and baking soda solution provides an ecologically friendly way to clear out any oils, soap residue and accumulated debris that may have formed over the past few weeks. Pour one cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by one cup of white vinegar. Cover the drain with a towel and let sit for 30 minutes. Rinse for several minutes with hot water and repeat as frequently as desired to get the best results.

Schedule Professional Drain Cleanings and Hydro Jetting Services

If its been a while since youve had a professional drain cleaning, or if youre experiencing clogs despite cleaning your drains often, then you may need a help from a certified plumber in Pittsburgh. Theres a chance there is already a large clog developed due to root growth or other materials trapped deep inside your plumbing. A team of licensed and insured plumbers will have the specialized equipment and experience to remove these items without harming your pipes.

Get an Annual Plumbing Inspection

Its a good idea to get a professional plumbing inspection at least once every year. This will ensure that root growth and other underlying issues are kept at bay. Ignoring problems or going years without a proper inspection could allow major problems to develop over time. Awareness is key to staying in control of your plumbing maintenance.
